Dr. Santos Barrera is a Research Scientist in Plant Breeding and Genomics at World Coffee Research, where he helps implement WCR’s global breeding programs. Dr. Barrera has worked in plant breeding for ten years, including at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Colombia and at Plant Sciences Inc., a California-based Biotech company.
His focus in plant breeding has been the introduction of useful genetic variance from related species through interspecific crossing. Dr. Barrera earned his Ph.D. in agronomy and horticulture, specializing in plant breeding, from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 2021. He lives in Colombia.
